Roberto Castro is a young golfer and has not had much experience on the Tour, so reality was bound to set in at some point. Although most expected him to drop in the standings, I don’t think anyone saw a +6 round coming after such an impressive performance yesterday. In today’s round, Castro recorded a birdie, 5 bogeys and a double bogey to end at -3 through the tournament so far. He easily made the cut, but he has to forget today’s meltdown and show up tomorrow with the same mentality he had on Thursday.
The reigning champion, Matt Kuchar, continued to do what’s made him so good, rolling in 7 birdies and a bogey to end the day at -6 and -7 on the tournament. He’s 4 shots off of the lead, but is only tied for 9th and is in good position heading into the weekend.
Unfortunately, the rest of Tech’s alumni were unable to make the cut today, with Tringale and Thompson ending one shot off the cut line at E. Molder, Cink and Matteson were all well off the pace, finishing the tournament at +4, +5 and +6 respectively. The TPC is a very tough course and it can eat up the players who aren’t mentally prepared to attack it.
