Final NBA Nightly Update of the Season

Will Bynum- Bynum had a fantastic performance tonight in the Pistons’ loss to the Nets. In his 22 minutes of play, he scored 23 points on 7 made FGs and 9 FTs. He did a great job of getting to the line and showing the league he can still play. He played most of his minutes against the Nets’ bench, but that shouldn’t take away from his performance since he is coming off of an injury. Bynum is a FA and has played very well to end the season, which should help when he starts talking contracts with teams.

Jarrett Jack- In his final game of the season, he scored 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. This was a very efficient night for him since he only recorded one TO. He has heated up nicely heading into the playoffs and should see some big minutes for the Warriors.

Anthony Morrow- In His 4 minutes of game action, he made one shot and scored 2 points. It’s surprising that he didn’t get more playing time considering the Mavericks are out of the playoffs and he has played well lately. Hopefully he’ll stick around with them and receive more playing time next fall.

Iman Shumpert- Both the Knicks and Hawks emptied their bench in tonight’s matchup, which means Shumpert should have had a big game. Fortunately he took advantage of that fact and had a huge game. In all, he scored 18 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals, and had his best game of the season. He has also played well lately, which should only help the Knicks going into the playoffs.

Thaddeus Young- Young finished a miserable season with the 76ers by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. He received less minutes than usual since most of the playing time went to the bench players. I’m sure Thaddeus is just happy this season is over and he can have a break from all the disappointment in Philly right now.

NBA Nightly Update 4/14/13

Chris Bosh- The Heat had another win tonight against the Bulls and their team is finally looking healthy again. Bosh had a solid night with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 blocks. They’re cruising right now and look unbeatable heading into the playoffs.

Anthony Morrow- Morrow saw three minutes of action in tonight’s blowout against the Hornets, but failed to make his one shot attempt. Dirk did manage to score his 25,00th point tonight though.

Iman Shumpert- In his 25 minutes of play, Shumpert scored 10 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He has shot well from behind the 3 point line recently, which is a good sign for the Knicks. When they are shooting well, they can beat anyone. Right now they are playing great basketball and wrapped up the 2 seed tonight.

Thaddeus Young- Young had another great night for the 76ers, and this time they got a win. He scored 14 points and added 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. They beat a struggling Cavs team, but a win is a win for a team who underachieved this season. The worst part for the 76ers is that Doug Collins announced his retirement tonight, which means there should be a completely different look to the 76ers next season.

Good Night for Jackets in the NBA

Chris Bosh put in a solid night’s work with a 17 point, 7 rebound night in a victory over the Celtics. Miami continues its spectacular form over the second half of the season as they cruise to the playoffs as the top seed out of the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the loss for the Celtics all but cements them into the seventh seed for the playoffs.

Iman Shumpert contributed 36 solid minutes in an effort against the Cavs. The Knicks, who were carried by 31 point efforts from both Carmelo Anthony and J.R. Smith, took care of business against the Cavs winning by a score of 101-91. While only scoring 8 points in his 36 minutes of play, Shumpert proved he could contribute in other ways. Shumpert pulled down 11 rebounds, dished out 3 assists, and recorded both a block and a steal. While the Knicks are in good shape to secure the 2 seed out of the East, they have a crucial game on Sunday which could decide the tiebreaker between the Knicks and the lurking Pacers, who will travel to Madison Square Garden.

Derrick Favors, much like Iman Shumpert, put in 31 gritty minutes in a 107-100 victory for the Jazz over the Kevin Love-less Timberwolves. Though not bedazzling the fans with an abundance of points (he scored only 6), Favors earned every minute off the bench by contributing 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. The Jazz fed off of his energy tonight, evidenced by Favors’s team high +16 point differential. The Jazz came through in a must win matchup as they continue to chase the Lakers for the 8th seed in the Western Conference. The Jazz will get the chance to continue their push when they play the second game of their home and home mini-series with the Timberwolves on Monday.

Thaddeus Young was the top performer for the Philadelphia 76ers in a 97-86 win over the Wizards. Young’s 18 point, 13 rebound double-double effort certainly played a large part in the victory. Young also pickpocketed 4 steals for the 76ers, who are playing for pride at this point. Despite sitting in the 9th seed in the east, they will be unable to catch the 8th seeded Bucks.

Also notching a double-double was Will Bynum of the Detroit Pistons. In an easy 20 point victory of the lowly Bobcats, Bynum was one of 6 Pistons in double figures. Bynum added 10 assists on the night, as well as 3 boards and a steal.

Jarrett Jack and the Golden State Warriors are trying to do a favor for Favors and the Jazz. The Warriors are currently up by 5 in a tight affair with the Lakers towards the end third quarter. In 13 minutes off the bench so far, Jack has added 5 rebounds, 4 points, and 4 assists. Golden State is fighting only for seeding, as a win would solidify them in the 6th seed out west. A loss for the Lakers would put them level with the Jazz, which means they would miss out on the playoffs.

Anthony Morrow went unused in an overtime victory for the Mavericks. Despite the win, the Mavericks are out of contention for the 8th seed in the Western Conference, as they do not hold the tiebreaker over either of their 8th seed competitors, the Jazz or Lakers.

NBA Nightly Update 4/10/13

Will Bynum- Bynum had another great game since returning from his injury. He provided 16 points and 3 assists off the bench and helped the Pistons get a win on the road against the Cavs. He’s definitely giving teams one last look at his game before the end of the season and free agency.

Thaddeus Young- Young went crazy last night against the Hawks at home, shooting 14-20 from the field and scoring 28 points. He also added 8 rebounds and 2 assists and really had a great game. The 76ers still got blown out as the rest of his team shot poorly and the Hawks had a great game, but it’s still nice to see him playing so well.

NBA Nightly Update 4/9/13

Derrick Favors- The Jazz had a big game last night against the Thunder, but were unable to get the win. Favors came off the bench like usual and had 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks. The 5 blocks were a good sign, but he is going to have to score more in the last three games since he is now the first man off the bench. No one else on Utah’s bench has been as consistent as Favors and the Jazz need that. The Lakers won last night against the Hornets like expected, which means they are now a half game ahead of the Jazz. Again though, the Jazz have two easy games against the Timberwolves and a matchup with the Grizzlies left and have a chance to win all three.

Jarrett Jack- Jack had a quiet game last night in the Warrior’s win over the Timberwolves, only scoring 4 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 23 minutes. The Warriors are in the playoffs, but they may slide into the 7th spot since the Rockets are playing so well. I think both team would like to avoid Durant and the Thunder, so hopefully they can put together a couple more wins down the stretch.

Iman Shumpert- Shumpert had another big offensive game yesterday against the Wizards, scoring 18 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 24 minutes. He also made 4 threes in the game and seems to be heating up. The entire Knicks team made 20 threes last night, so they are passing the ball around and getting everyone open looks. This fast past style benefits Shumpert’s game and should give them a chance against the Heat in the playoffs. The Knicks have also won 13 in a row, so we’ll start keeping track of that as well.

Thaddeus Young- In the 76er’s blowout loss against the Nets, Young had a rough shooting night. He only went 1-9 from the field and scored 3 points. Everyone is bound to have a rough night every now and then, but the 76ers can’t win if he isn’t playing well. What’s even more surprising is his lack of rebounds as well. In his 25 minutes of action, he only grabbed 3 rebounds, which is well below his average. He just had a bad night and will try to erase it from his memory.

NBA Nightly Update 4/6/13

Thaddeus Young- The 76ers lost bad on the road tonight against the Heat in Lebron James return to action. The Heat were without Bosh tonight, so Young had a huge advantage in the paint. In 30 minutes though, he was not able to effectively contribute to the team and only added 9 points with 1 rebound. He’ll look to bounce back from this poor performance and I expect him to play well the rest of the season. Tonight’s game was an outlier to an otherwise great season from Young.

NBA Nightly Update 4/4/13

Derrick Favors- The Jazz lost at home tonight against the Nuggets and the loss drops them into the 9th spot in the West. Favors had a decent night with 8 points and 6 rebounds, but they need to play better than that if they want to make the playoffs. If they can win 4 of their  last 6 games (three of which are against the Hornets and Timberwolves), I like their chances of making the playoffs.

Jarrett Jack- The Warriors are still trying to secure the 6th spot in the West, so their win tonight against the Hornets was big. Jarrett Jack had an equally big performance off the bench, shooting 8-11 for 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 8 assists. When he plays well they usually win, and tonight was no different. He seems to be getting hot heading into the playoffs, which is good news for the Warriors.

Iman Shumpert- The Hawks were unable to stop Carmelo Anthony as he continued his hot shooting. Shumpert didn’t have a great night, but it made no difference. He finished with a stat line of 4 points and 6 rebounds and was unable to really have an impact on the game.

Thaddeus Young- The 76ers managed to lose on the road at the Bobcats tonight. Young had a poor shooting night, going 2-9 from the field and only scoring 6 points. He added 7 rebounds and 3 steals, but he was bound to have an off performance eventually. The real story of the night was Jrue Holiday’s historically bad shooting performance. He went 2-24 from the field and single handedly lost the game for the 76ers.

NBA Nightly Update 3/30/13

Derrick Favors- The Jazz had a big win against the Nets last night at home, which keeps them in the 8th spot in the West. Favors had a nice night with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals off the bench. They just need to do their best to ignore the charging Mavericks and the Lakers and I can see them making the playoffs.

Jarrett Jack- The Warriors crushed the Trailblazers at home last night, getting one game closer to locking up the 6th seed. Jack only had 4 points in 28 minutes, but he added 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The team played well when he was running the point, which is good news for the Warriors.

Thaddeus Young- The 76ers got the win last night, even if it was against the Bobcats. They have continued to play well behind the hot shooting of Spencer Hawes and Thaddeus Young. Young had 15 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, which was a very impressive all around performance. He has continued to play well even though the team has nothing to really play for.

NBA Nightly Update 3/29/13

Chris Bosh- The Miami Heat were back to their winning ways, beating the Hornets on the road. Bosh had a quiet game with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, but the Hornets aren’t a very good team so the team didn’t need a big night from him. The Heat’s next game is on the road against the Spurs (the game most people thought would end their streak) and could potentially be an NBA Finals preview.

Derrick Favors- The Jazz are currently finishing up a road contest against Portland and it looks like they are going to get a huge road win. Favors had a nice night off the bench with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists and has continued to show signs of becoming a dominant player. With a win tonight the Jazz move into a tie for the 8th spot in the West with the Lakers. If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, however, they would get the 8th spot over the Lakers since they have more head to head wins.

Iman Shumpert- Shumpert had another nice game with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. This is his second consecutive game where he was able to contribute offensively, which is a very good sign for the Knicks. Although they played the Bobcats (that should always be a win), it is nice to see them winning again and playing well going into the playoffs. Maybe they can give the Heat a run and make them work to win the Eastern Conference.

Thaddeus Young- The 76ers won on the road tonight against the Cavaliers thanks in large part to Thaddeus Young. He was incredibly efficient on offense, going 9-13 from the field and scoring 18 points. He has played great lately and someone is going to pay him in FA this offseason. He’s still a young player and a team in need of a SF (Atlanta Hawks?) will probably lure him out of Philadelphia.

NBA Nightly Update 3/27/13

Chris Bosh- Bosh had a very good game yesterday, scoring 21 points with 4 rebounds and 4 blocks, but the Heat finally lost. The Bulls played fantastic defense on Lebron and Wade in the 4th and were able to get the win. Now the Heat can go back to just playing basketball and the rest of the world can watch SportsCenter without seeing the Heat every 5 minutes.

Derrick Favors- Favors had a nice game yesterday in the Jazz’s home victory over the Suns. He only had 9 points, but he also added 13 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. The Jazz have been winning lately, but they are still one game behind the Lakers with 10 games left.

Jarrett Jack- Jack had another nice night for the Warriors, but they still lost at home against the Kings. He had 16 points, 2 rebounds, and 7 assists and has continued to look impressive the last couple of weeks. The Warriors are going to make the playoffs and Jack  looks like he is officially out of the slump he was in.

Iman Shumpert- The Knicks beat the Grizzlies last night, thanks to a surprisingly efficient game from Shumpert. In his 21 minutes of play, he made 4 threes and had 16 points. The Knicks are going to need him or someone else to step up in the playoffs because they currently look like a two man show with JR Smith and Carmelo Anthony. Shumpert has been playing better in the last week or two, so maybe this is a sign that he is finally back to normal after his injury.

Thaddeus Young- The 76ers won last night at home and finally had a complete shooting performance from their starters. Young had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks, so he was able to contribute all over the floor. He has played well recently and the 76ers have been winning some games.
