Both games from last night’s NBA playoff action saw a Tech player play important minutes. Chris Bosh had a huge game for the Heat in their road win over the Bulls while Jarrett Jack struggled in Golden State’s return home. Both teams got more than they expected and had to put up a fight in two tough games yesterday. Continue reading
Chris Bosh- The Heat had another win tonight against the Bulls and their team is finally looking healthy again. Bosh had a solid night with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 blocks. They’re cruising right now and look unbeatable heading into the playoffs.
Anthony Morrow- Morrow saw three minutes of action in tonight’s blowout against the Hornets, but failed to make his one shot attempt. Dirk did manage to score his 25,00th point tonight though.
Iman Shumpert- In his 25 minutes of play, Shumpert scored 10 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He has shot well from behind the 3 point line recently, which is a good sign for the Knicks. When they are shooting well, they can beat anyone. Right now they are playing great basketball and wrapped up the 2 seed tonight.
Thaddeus Young- Young had another great night for the 76ers, and this time they got a win. He scored 14 points and added 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. They beat a struggling Cavs team, but a win is a win for a team who underachieved this season. The worst part for the 76ers is that Doug Collins announced his retirement tonight, which means there should be a completely different look to the 76ers next season.
Thaddeus Young- The 76ers lost bad on the road tonight against the Heat in Lebron James return to action. The Heat were without Bosh tonight, so Young had a huge advantage in the paint. In 30 minutes though, he was not able to effectively contribute to the team and only added 9 points with 1 rebound. He’ll look to bounce back from this poor performance and I expect him to play well the rest of the season. Tonight’s game was an outlier to an otherwise great season from Young.
The Knicks roll into Miami tonight, looking to make a statement heading into the playoffs. They have been hot recently and are trying to continue their impressive play. Iman Shumpert has been a starter for them through much of the season and should see quite a bit of playing time tonight. Continue reading
Chris Bosh- With LeBron James and Dwyane Wade out for tonight’s game against the Spurs, Chris Bosh became the go to scorer for the Heat. He came up big tonight with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks and the game winning 3 pointer. Bosh hasn’t been needed lately for the Heat to win, but it is nice to see that he can step up when the team really needs him. Here’s the video of Bosh’s game winner.
Iman Shumpert- The Knicks won today 108-89 at home against the Celtics. Shumpert was 3-3 from the field to score 10 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. The Knicks are back to winning, which should help carry them through the the first two rounds of the playoffs.
The end of the NBA season is getting close and teams are fighting to make the playoffs. Some former Tech players have already clinched playoff spots while others are still battling it out for the last few seeds. Here’s an update on the players’ teams who are still in the playoff chase.
Chris Bosh- The Heat are obviously in the playoffs and will have home court advantage throughout the postseason. Their win streak certainly helped them distance themselves from the rest of the conference, but I don’t think anyone sees them losing until the Finals (that’s probably a stretch too).
Iman Shumpert- The Knicks are currently in a battle for the second seed in the East with the Pacers, but both teams should be pretty happy they will avoid the Heat until the Conference Finals. Shumpert has been playing well and it should be fun seeing the Knicks on tv in the playoffs. They play exciting basketball and I can see Shumpert making a name for himself this year. Last season he tore his ACL so he’ll be looking to come back strong.
Jarrett Jack- The Warriors are in position to get the 6th seed in the West, which would put them in position to probably play the Clippers or Nuggets. That’s an extremely tough task for them, but Jack should play an important role in that matchup. If he can continue his hot shooting, he’ll be a nice compliment to Curry and can keep them in the game. I’m personally most excited to see the Warriors play since they will have a shootout in their series and us East coasters haven’t gotten to see them play very much.
Derrick Favors- The Jazz have played well lately to get back into the 8th seed position. They are currently tied with the Lakers, but hold the head to head advantage. The Jazz have an easier schedule than the Lakers, since their two toughest games (Nuggets and Thunder) left are at home. They have been playing well and the Lakers haven’t, so their chances are greater than the Lakers of getting that last spot. Favors will need to play well down the stretch for them though, since their biggest strength is interior offense.
Anthony Morrow- The Mavericks are a game and a half behind the Jazz and Lakers, which means they are going to have to win almost every game left on their schedule, which should be pretty difficult given some of the teams they play. They have a game left with the Lakers, however, which should help them gain a game on them if they can pull that out.
Chris Bosh- The Miami Heat were back to their winning ways, beating the Hornets on the road. Bosh had a quiet game with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, but the Hornets aren’t a very good team so the team didn’t need a big night from him. The Heat’s next game is on the road against the Spurs (the game most people thought would end their streak) and could potentially be an NBA Finals preview.
Derrick Favors- The Jazz are currently finishing up a road contest against Portland and it looks like they are going to get a huge road win. Favors had a nice night off the bench with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists and has continued to show signs of becoming a dominant player. With a win tonight the Jazz move into a tie for the 8th spot in the West with the Lakers. If the playoffs were to start tomorrow, however, they would get the 8th spot over the Lakers since they have more head to head wins.
Iman Shumpert- Shumpert had another nice game with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. This is his second consecutive game where he was able to contribute offensively, which is a very good sign for the Knicks. Although they played the Bobcats (that should always be a win), it is nice to see them winning again and playing well going into the playoffs. Maybe they can give the Heat a run and make them work to win the Eastern Conference.
Thaddeus Young- The 76ers won on the road tonight against the Cavaliers thanks in large part to Thaddeus Young. He was incredibly efficient on offense, going 9-13 from the field and scoring 18 points. He has played great lately and someone is going to pay him in FA this offseason. He’s still a young player and a team in need of a SF (Atlanta Hawks?) will probably lure him out of Philadelphia.
Chris Bosh- Bosh had a very good game yesterday, scoring 21 points with 4 rebounds and 4 blocks, but the Heat finally lost. The Bulls played fantastic defense on Lebron and Wade in the 4th and were able to get the win. Now the Heat can go back to just playing basketball and the rest of the world can watch SportsCenter without seeing the Heat every 5 minutes.
Derrick Favors- Favors had a nice game yesterday in the Jazz’s home victory over the Suns. He only had 9 points, but he also added 13 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. The Jazz have been winning lately, but they are still one game behind the Lakers with 10 games left.
Jarrett Jack- Jack had another nice night for the Warriors, but they still lost at home against the Kings. He had 16 points, 2 rebounds, and 7 assists and has continued to look impressive the last couple of weeks. The Warriors are going to make the playoffs and Jack looks like he is officially out of the slump he was in.
Iman Shumpert- The Knicks beat the Grizzlies last night, thanks to a surprisingly efficient game from Shumpert. In his 21 minutes of play, he made 4 threes and had 16 points. The Knicks are going to need him or someone else to step up in the playoffs because they currently look like a two man show with JR Smith and Carmelo Anthony. Shumpert has been playing better in the last week or two, so maybe this is a sign that he is finally back to normal after his injury.
Thaddeus Young- The 76ers won last night at home and finally had a complete shooting performance from their starters. Young had 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks, so he was able to contribute all over the floor. He has played well recently and the 76ers have been winning some games.
Chris Bosh- The Heat won again tonight, extending their win streak to 27 games. Bosh didn’t shoot well, but he wasn’t needed since they played the Magic. He still managed to post 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists though, so he contributed in other areas of the game.
Derrick Favors- The Jazz won at home tonight over the 76ers, pulling within a game of the Lakers for the 8th seed in the West. Favors was a key contributor in the game tonight with 13 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks. The Jazz seem to be heating up, which is a good sign as the season comes to a close.
Jarrett Jack- Jack had a huge impact in the Warriors win over the Lakers tonight. He scored 19 points off the bench and also added 3 rebounds and 3 assists. When he plays well, the Warriors usually win. He has started to heat up in the last week as well, which is a good sign for Golden State heading down the stretch.
Thaddeus Young- Young wasn’t a major contributor tonight for the 76ers in their loss on the road against the Jazz. He had 6 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes of game time, which are very low numbers for him. He needs to keep playing well as the season comes to a close since he is a FA heading into the offseason.
Chris Bosh- The Heat won again tonight against Bynum’s Pistons. Surprisingly, Bosh went 1-7 and didn’t do much tonight. He had 6 rebounds, but that doesn’t mean much since he played over 30 minutes of the game. I can’t really be critical though since everyone has a bad game at some point and they keep winning.
Will Bynum- In the same game as Bosh, Bynum had the same production. He went 1-5 from the field and didn’t contribute much. The Heat turned it on in the second half, so Bynum didn’t see much playing time tonight.
Derrick Favors- The Jazz went into OT against the Spurs on the road, but were unable to get the win. They have now become an afterthought in the playoff conversation as the season comes to an end. Favors played 19 minutes off the bench and had 6 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Yet another solid game, but I am just waiting til Paul Millsap leaves in FA and Favors can start all year.
Iman Shumpert- In his 17 minutes of game action, he had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. He showed up in the stat sheet tonight, which is a plus for the Knicks and helped them win on the road. He plays great defense, but contributing on the offensive end is very important for his development and he did that today.
