Final Round Results from the TPC

Both Roberto Castro and Matt Kuchar entered the day yesterday at -4 on the tournament and were playing for positioning since neither had a chance to win. They were looking to build a little momentum and hopefully finish in a position to take home a nice check. Kuchar had a solid round going through the first 16 holes (-5 on the tournament to that point), but subsequently double and triple bogeyed the last two holes to finish at E. Kuchar certainly had high expectations this week as he looked to repeat on his title from last year, but he didn’t seem to be playing with much confidence after he fell out of contention.

Castro had a better day yesterday than Kuchar, as he was able to finish at -5 on the tournament. This was his first TPC appearance and it was a great start. He’s still a young player and should see improvement with experience. If he can learn to play with more consistency, then he may find himself winning a few tournaments in the future. If his first round 63 was any indication of his skill set, then he has a very bright future ahead of him.

Third Round Results from the TPC

After each of the first two rounds, a Tech grad was in contention for the lead. That’s not the case going into tomorrow, however, as Matt Kuchar struggled to gain ground on Tiger and the other leaders. Kuchar finished his round with a +3, which dropped him back to -4 on the tournament.

One of the positives on the day though was Roberto Castro’s performance. He was able to fight back after a dismal second round and went under par on the day, shooting a 71. He also sits at -4, which means both should tee off around the same time tomorrow. Neither has a chance to win the tournament, but both can build some momentum with a strong final day at the TPC.

Castro Collapses in Second Round of the TPC

Roberto Castro is a young golfer and has not had much experience on the Tour, so reality was bound to set in at some point. Although most expected him to drop in the standings, I don’t think anyone saw a +6 round coming after such an impressive performance yesterday. In today’s round, Castro recorded a birdie, 5 bogeys and a double bogey to end at -3 through the tournament so far. He easily made the cut, but he has to forget today’s meltdown and show up tomorrow with the same mentality he had on Thursday. Continue reading

First Round Results From the TPC

The Players Championship started this week, which means almost all of Tech’s former golfers will be competing in the field. Some players came out strong today, posting scores under par, while others really struggled. Nick Thompson was able to finish with a -3 on the day and both Matt Kuchar and Cameron Tringale are one shot behind him at -2. Continue reading
