Final NBA Nightly Update of the Season

Will Bynum- Bynum had a fantastic performance tonight in the Pistons’ loss to the Nets. In his 22 minutes of play, he scored 23 points on 7 made FGs and 9 FTs. He did a great job of getting to the line and showing the league he can still play. He played most of his minutes against the Nets’ bench, but that shouldn’t take away from his performance since he is coming off of an injury. Bynum is a FA and has played very well to end the season, which should help when he starts talking contracts with teams.

Jarrett Jack- In his final game of the season, he scored 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. This was a very efficient night for him since he only recorded one TO. He has heated up nicely heading into the playoffs and should see some big minutes for the Warriors.

Anthony Morrow- In His 4 minutes of game action, he made one shot and scored 2 points. It’s surprising that he didn’t get more playing time considering the Mavericks are out of the playoffs and he has played well lately. Hopefully he’ll stick around with them and receive more playing time next fall.

Iman Shumpert- Both the Knicks and Hawks emptied their bench in tonight’s matchup, which means Shumpert should have had a big game. Fortunately he took advantage of that fact and had a huge game. In all, he scored 18 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals, and had his best game of the season. He has also played well lately, which should only help the Knicks going into the playoffs.

Thaddeus Young- Young finished a miserable season with the 76ers by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. He received less minutes than usual since most of the playing time went to the bench players. I’m sure Thaddeus is just happy this season is over and he can have a break from all the disappointment in Philly right now.

NBA Nightly Update 4/10/13

Will Bynum- Bynum had another great game since returning from his injury. He provided 16 points and 3 assists off the bench and helped the Pistons get a win on the road against the Cavs. He’s definitely giving teams one last look at his game before the end of the season and free agency.

Thaddeus Young- Young went crazy last night against the Hawks at home, shooting 14-20 from the field and scoring 28 points. He also added 8 rebounds and 2 assists and really had a great game. The 76ers still got blown out as the rest of his team shot poorly and the Hawks had a great game, but it’s still nice to see him playing so well.

NBA Nightly Update 4/7/13

Will Bynum- Bynum made his return from his injury tonight and played quite well. In his 17 minutes of play, he had 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists. That’s not too bad for a guy who’s missed a couple of weeks of game action. The Pistons managed to get an impressive win over the Bulls tonight, but it’s too bad they weren’t able to do this more often during the season.

Derrick Favors- Favors played 30 minutes tonight for the Jazz in a huge game against the Warriors. Faovrs recorded 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the win tonight. The Jazz are in a tight race with the Lakers and this win gave them a 1/2 game lead over them for the 8th spot. The Jazz have four games left with two of them against the Timberwolves, which means their chances are looking good at making the playoffs.

Jarrett Jack- Although the Warriors haven’t technically clinched a playoff spot yet, there is almost no chance of them missing out on the postseason. They lost to the Jazz tonight, but they still hold down the 6th spot in the West. Jack had a decent game tonight, scoring 7 points with 2 rebounds and 6 assists. They should be fine, but are looking at a tough matchup against the Nuggets or Thunder in the first round of the playoffs.

Iman Shumpert- Shumpert only played 11 minutes in today’s game and didn’t score a point. He managed to record 2 rebounds, an assist, and a steal, which isn’t very encouraging. He only played 11 minutes in a playoff style game, which means the Knicks may lean to others when the playoffs start. They have veterans like Kidd, Smith, and Felton on the roster, which means Shumpert may see a reduced role.

NBA Nightly Update 3/26/13

Iman Shumpert- The Knicks pulled out a win on the road last night against the Celtics, winning 100-85. Shumpert played 26 minutes of the game, but failed to contribute statistically at all. He had 2 points, 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal. It must be frustrating for Shumpert since Melo and JR Smith had 54 shots combined last night, but he still needs to try and play more assertively on the offensive end. The Knicks have won 5 in a row, so they are playing well heading into the playoffs.

Side Note: Will Bynum didn’t play last night for the Pistons due to his hand injury. He probably won’t return for the rest of the season.

Will Bynum Out for Remainder of the Season?

According to ESPN, Will Bynum injured his right hand on Saturday night and had an MRI yesterday. For those of you with ESPN Insider, here is the article. If you are unable to see the whole thing, Bynum told Vincent Goodwill of The Detroit News his hand stings after physical contact. Goodwill goes on to add that the Pistons may shut him down for the remainder of the season if there is extensive damage to his hand.

As of today, the Pistons have 11 games left in the season and are out of the playoffs, so it would not make sense to risk further injuring his hand. Bynum is a free agent in the offseason and will want to be healthy so he can find a team. The post mentions that the Pistons will likely offer him a contract (which they should), but I don’t see Bynum returning. He’ll want to be healthy so he can find a new team where he can be the primary back up PG instead of getting useless minutes for a poor team. Hopefully Bynum’s MRI comes back negative and there is no serious damage to his hand.

NBA Nightly Update 3/23/13

Will Bynum- Bynum only received 6 minutes of playing time, and during that time he accounted for one assist. There’s not much to say about that.

Jarrett Jack- In the Warriors win over the Wizards last night, Jack scored 11 points and dished out 6 assists. He seems to be back in form and the Warriors have almost secured a playoff spot.

Iman Shumpert- The Knicks won last night at home against the Raptors. In Shumpert’s 20 minutes of play, he had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. He had an excellent game last night and finally contributed all over the court. When he has played well, the Knicks have won.

NBA Nightly Update 3/22/13

Chris Bosh- The Heat won again tonight against Bynum’s Pistons. Surprisingly, Bosh went 1-7 and didn’t do much tonight. He had 6 rebounds, but that doesn’t mean much since he played over 30 minutes of the game. I can’t really be critical though since everyone has a bad game at some point and they keep winning.

Will Bynum- In the same game as Bosh, Bynum had the same production. He went 1-5 from the field and didn’t contribute much. The Heat turned it on in the second half, so Bynum didn’t see much playing time tonight.

Derrick Favors- The Jazz went into OT against the Spurs on the road, but were unable to get the win. They have now become an afterthought in the playoff conversation as the season comes to an end. Favors played 19 minutes off the bench and had 6 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Yet another solid game, but I am just waiting til Paul Millsap leaves in FA and Favors can start all year.

Iman Shumpert- In his 17 minutes of game action, he had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. He showed up in the stat sheet tonight, which is a plus for the Knicks and helped them win on the road. He plays great defense, but contributing on the offensive end is very important for his development and he did that today.

NBA Nightly Update 3/18/13

Chris Bosh- The Heat won a very exciting game against the Celtics tonight to extend their streak to 23 games. Bosh didn’t have a huge game, but he was efficient from the field and had a stat line of 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. With Garnett not playing, I thought Bosh would have a big game, but he wasn’t needed and they got it done on the road.

Will Bynum- The Pistons got destroyed tonight by the Nets at home. Bynum had 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, but there’s not much you can take out of getting mop up duty. Hopefully the Pistons are competitive in the next game and he gets some meaningful minutes.

Derrick Favors- The Jazz lost a close game at home against the Knicks and Favors wasn’t much help offensively. He shot 1-7 from the floor and was ineffective against a Knicks team that was without Stoudemire and Chandler. That’s somewhat surprising, but he did have 13 rebounds so he was helpful on the boards.

Jarrett Jack- Jack had 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 assists off the bench tonight for the Warriors. They beat the Hornets as expected, but it’s still nice to see them string together a few wins. They seem to be righting the ship at the same time Jack is coming out of his slump.

Anthony Morrow- Morrow finally got some minutes tonight for the Mavericks and it happened to be in his return home to Atlanta. In his 13 minutes of action, he scored 8 points and recorded 3 assists. Even better, he attempted 0 threes, which shows he is creating offense for himself besides just being a 3 point shooter. Hopefully his solid performance will convince the team to give him more playing time.

Iman Shumpet- Shumpert had a solid game tonight, scoring 8 points and grabbing 2 rebounds. he hasn’t been the same player this season after coming back from his ACL injury, so the expectations for him have decreased lately. It was a nice win on the road for his team since they are trying to avoid a slide in the standings.

Thaddeus Young- Young had the best performance out of anyone tonight, helping the 76ers edge out a close win at home against the Trailblazers. He had a very nice all around game, stuffing the stat sheet with 19 points on 9-15 shooting, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. His great play of late has helped the 76ers put together a few wins and give the fans in Philly something to be excited about.

NBA Nightly Update 3/16/13

Will Bynum- Although the Pistons lost on the road last night against the Trailblazers, Bynum finally had a breakout game. In 28 minutes he shot 10-14 from the field to score 23 points. He also added a couple rebounds and a 4 assists off the bench. He hasn’t had a great scoring night in a while now, so this is very nice to see. Hopefully he can get a couple of good nights in a row since the Pistons have been cold lately.

Derrick Favors- The Jazz got a much needed win last night and they are now a half game behind the Lakers for the 8th spot in the West. Favors contributed a solid performance with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. This was a much quieter performance than he has had of late, but he was still able to contribute off the bench.

Thaddeus Young- Young had another nice game for the 76ers, who beat the Pacers at home. He had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, but those numbers pale in comparison to Spencer Hawes’ near quadruple double. After losing 12 of 13 games, the 76ers have won 2 of the last 3, so maybe they are starting to heat up.

NBA Nightly Update 3/11/13

Will Bynum- In Bynum’s 19 minutes of action, he was able to score 12 points for the Pistons. They lost again on the road, but it was nice to see Bynum scoring the ball. He’s been in a little slump so this was a step in the right direction.

Derrick Favors- On the winning side of the Pistons-Jazz game was Derrick Favors, who got the start again while Millsap is injured. In his 21 minutes of game time, he posted 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks. This was a down game for him, but he was still able to contribute and that’s a good sign. The Jazz have also been playing poorly lately, so getting a win is crucial for their playoff chances.

Jarrett Jack- The Warriors crushed the Knicks at home last night. Jarrett Jack was unfortunately not able to contribute to much of the game even though he received 27 minutes of playing time. On 2-7 shooting, he scored 4 points and added 2 rebounds and an assist. After his impressive run about a month ago, he has really cooled off. Hopefully he can get back into a groove sometime soon.

Iman Shumpert- Shumpert and the Knicks got blown out on the road by the Warriors. Shumpert started and played quite a bit, but his only real contribution to the team effort last night was in 8 points on 3-9 shooting. He is a great defensive player, but you would like to see more contribution from him when he gets 27 minutes of action.

Thaddeus Young- Young and the 76ers were able to win a big game at home against the Nets last night. In 36 minutes of play, he shot 6-9 for 16 points and added 10 rebounds and 3 assists. He has been on a tear scoring the ball lately so the 76ers were bound to finally get a win.
