Finals Are Around the Corner

Due to the impending arrival of finals week at Georgia Tech, posts will be few and far between for the next week or two. Obviously the NFL Draft is coming up and we will keep you updated on any major developments, but that will be about it. Keep this in mind if you’re visiting and are curious about the lack of information. It will certainly pick back up when our writers have the chance to post new information and we’ll definitely have quite a bit to discuss. Thanks for your understanding!

The NBA Playoffs Are Here!

After a seemingly longer NBA season than usual, the NBA playoffs have arrived and started with a bang. The first two games of the day were close affairs between the Celtics and Knicks and the Warriors and Nuggets. Luckily for Tech fans, two former Yellow Jackets were playing in these games, which made them even better to watch. Continue reading

RBC Heritage Third Round Update

Nick Thompson had the best day out of everyone left on the course and ended at -2 on the tournament. He’s out of contention for the win, but he can still wrap up a nice outing with a nice day tomorrow. Cink dropped two shots today, but he still sits at -1 and one shot back of Thompson. Both of them have had a successful tournament and have continued their good play. Continue reading

RBC Heritage Second Round Update

Stewart Cink had the best day out of everyone, going -2 on the round with 3 birdies and a bogey. He’s now at -3 on the tournament and sits 3 shots back of the leader. Thompson, Matteson, and Kuchar are all at -1, E, and +1 respectively and made the cut. It’s somewhat surprising that Kuchar went +2 on the day after he had such a great Masters, but hopefully he can put together a nice weekend and stay hot.

Both Molder and Castro missed the cut (cut was +1) at +4 and +8 respectively. Molder had some nice holes, but had a bad bogey run halfway through his round that ruined his day. Castro on the other hand was off from the beginning of the round and just had a rough tournament.

Wieters’ Walk Off

Matt Wieters is officially out of his slump. He has had a couple of nice games the last few nights, but they were nothing like tonight. In tonight’s home game against the Rays, Wieters went 2-5 with 2 extra base hits, 2 runs, and 4 RBIs. And in case you’re wondering where his four RBIs came from, check this out.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning, Wieters hit a grand slam to right center field. Although the pitch was 78 mph down the middle of the plate, it’s still nice to see Wieters hitting the ball. He struck out in three of his first four plate appearances, but his final AB should give him major confidence going forward.

RBC Heritage First Round Update and Second Round Tee Times

The first round of the RBC Heritage is over and there were mixed results for Georgia Tech’s pros. Stewart Cink made 4 birdies, but also bogeyed 3 holes to end at -1 on the day. Kuchar had a less eventful day, parring 15 holes and also ending at -1. Nick Thompson had the most surprising day out of the 6 golfers by positing going -1 as well. He did a great job of battling back after bogeys and staying under par.  Continue reading

Final NBA Nightly Update of the Season

Will Bynum- Bynum had a fantastic performance tonight in the Pistons’ loss to the Nets. In his 22 minutes of play, he scored 23 points on 7 made FGs and 9 FTs. He did a great job of getting to the line and showing the league he can still play. He played most of his minutes against the Nets’ bench, but that shouldn’t take away from his performance since he is coming off of an injury. Bynum is a FA and has played very well to end the season, which should help when he starts talking contracts with teams.

Jarrett Jack- In his final game of the season, he scored 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. This was a very efficient night for him since he only recorded one TO. He has heated up nicely heading into the playoffs and should see some big minutes for the Warriors.

Anthony Morrow- In His 4 minutes of game action, he made one shot and scored 2 points. It’s surprising that he didn’t get more playing time considering the Mavericks are out of the playoffs and he has played well lately. Hopefully he’ll stick around with them and receive more playing time next fall.

Iman Shumpert- Both the Knicks and Hawks emptied their bench in tonight’s matchup, which means Shumpert should have had a big game. Fortunately he took advantage of that fact and had a huge game. In all, he scored 18 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals, and had his best game of the season. He has also played well lately, which should only help the Knicks going into the playoffs.

Thaddeus Young- Young finished a miserable season with the 76ers by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. He received less minutes than usual since most of the playing time went to the bench players. I’m sure Thaddeus is just happy this season is over and he can have a break from all the disappointment in Philly right now.

A Disappointing End to Utah’s Season

In a must win game against the Grizzlies tonight, the Utah Jazz shot 32% from the field. They came out flat and missed a lot of simple shots. Although they were playing a pretty good team, one still would have expected them to play better than they did. Credit must be given to the Grizzlies though, since they do have one of the better defenses in the NBA.

Derrick Favors contributed to the poor shooting tonight, going 2-9 from the field and scoring 4 points. Although he shot poorly tonight, he was still able to help the team by gathering 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. There’s a lot of promise in his game and he has the potential to be an all star when given the playing time. The Jazz’s season is now over and the team will have to make some decisions on Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap during free agency.

RBC Heritage Tournament Begins Tomorrow

Now that the Masters is over and the golf world has quieted down, there is a two month wait until the next major tournament. During that gap, there are quite a few smaller tournaments to fill the schedule, excluding the TPC. Therefore, Tech fans will get the chance to see all of GT’s former golfers in tournaments like this weeks RBC Heritage Tournament.
