NBA Nightly Update 3/10/13

Chris Bosh- The Heat extended their streak to 17 games in a row tonight, thanks in large part to Bosh. Lebron finally had a low scoring night and Bosh was able to take advantage of this. He scored 24 points while shooting an incredibly efficient 11-15 from the floor. He also added 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks to his impressive performance.

Will Bynum- As I’m writing this, the Pistons are getting destroyed on the road at the Clippers and there is no point in waiting for it to finish. At the moment, Bynum has 6 points and 2 assists in 13 minutes of action. Sadly, they are actually shooting well, but the Clippers are shooting over 60% and Chris Paul is having a fantastic game.

Anthony Morrow- Morrow finally got playing time tonight for the Mavericks, but it came in a blowout. In his 2 minutes of playing time, he managed shoot four shots, but only made one. He was understandably eager to impress the coaches, but I can’t imagine four shots in two minutes went down well with them after the game.

Thaddeus Young- Much like Bosh, Thaddeus Young had a huge night. Even though the 76ers lost, he posted a stat line of 26 points(13-17 from the field), 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 blocks. This is his second straight game with over 20 points and he is really starting to heat up. The 76ers will start to piece together some wins when he can get some help from Holiday and Turner. Both haven’t been playing well of late and the team has had to rely on bench players to keep them in games.

NBA Nightly Update 3/8/13

Bosh- He posted another solid game last night in the Heat’s win over the 76ers, scoring 14 points with  4 rebounds and 4 assists. There’s not much Bosh really has to do at this point with the entire Heat team rolling and Lebron playing as well as he is.

Bynum- Bynum had another weak performance in a home loss against the Mavericks. In 16 minutes of action, he scored 4 points and hauled in 3 rebounds. What’s even more weak was his 0 assists to 4 turnovers in the game, which never looks good for a back-up PG. He really needs to heat up soon.

Favors- The Jazz lost on the road and are quickly sliding out of the playoffs. Favors managed to put together a very good game though(this is happening quite often now), with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 blocks. He did that in less minutes than usual because Paul Millsap was back in the lineup, taking the starting spot Favors had been holding down for the last three games. Although Utah isn’t currently playing well, Favors has been, which is great news for the team’s future.

Jarrett Jack- Jack posted another average game coming off the bench for the Warriors in their loss to the Rockets. In 30 minutes, he had 9 points on a subpar shooting night, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. He has really cooled down recently and he hasn’t been the same player in late games. Hopefully he can fix this slump and get back to being one of the best back-up PGs in the NBA.

Thaddeus Young- Although the 76ers didn’t play well on the road against the Heat, Thaddeus Young had a huge game. He scored 25 points with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. This was a great game for him since he had to go against Bosh and Lebron and was extremely efficient doing so. It’s nice to see him put together a great game after some average ones recently.

NBA Nightly Update 3/6/13

Chris Bosh- Last night Bosh and the Heat won a close game at home against the Magic. Although he didn’t have a great shooting night, he still contributed 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. The Heat have now won 16 in a row and are just coasting to the playoffs.

Will Bynum- He had another poor shooting night, going 2-8 from the field in the Pistons’ loss at home against the Knicks. At some point he will start heating back up and contributing off the bench, but right now he is in a slump.

Derrick Favors- The Jazz lost on the road last night against the Cavaliers. Although Favors only scored 6 points, he helped contribute by adding 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. It’s nice to see him helping out the team when he isn’t able to score the ball some nights. That’s a good sign for a young player who is still developing.

Jarrett Jack- Jack had 12 points in a close win against the Kings. He did so by shooting 3-14, however, so he had a pretty poor night. He is currently going through a mini slump after some monster games last week. Hopefully he can turn the ship around to keep the Warriors in the playoffs.

Iman Shumpert- Shumpert helped contribute to the Knicks’ road win over Will Bynum’s Pistons. He made three 3’s and shot much better this game, scoring 9 points and 6 rebounds. This was a nice game for him because recently he has underperformed based on the expectations he created after last season.

Thaddeus Young- Young had the best night out of all of the former Tech players. He went 8-11 from the field and had 16 points and 6 rebounds. He was efficient last night and played very well when he was on the court.

Weekend NBA Update 3/3/13

Chris Bosh- The Miami Heat continued their winning streak to 14 games after beating the Knicks today. Bosh continues to be a very important member of the team considering he is the Heat’s only real post threat. He has scored 13 and 16 this weekend, but surprisingly only pulled down 6 and 1 rebounds respectively in the two weekend games. Although the Heat are on a roll right now, he needs to improve his rebounding heading into the playoffs.

Will Bynum- Bynum only played 14 minutes in the Pistons’ last second loss to the Hornets on Friday night. He hasn’t played as much recently since Knight has returned and he was suspended. We’ll see how he does tonight since the Pistons play on the road against San Antonio.

Derrick Favors- He started and played 21 minutes in the Jazz’s Friday night win against the Bobcats. Unfortunately for Favors, he fouled out before he got a chance to make a real contribution in the game. The Jazz don’t play again until tomorrow night.

Jarrett Jack- Over the weekend the Warriors lost both contests they played against the Celtics and the 76ers. Jack was part of the problem, since he had two atrocious offensive performances. He finally cooled off after his impressive stretch the last few games.

Iman Shumpert- Shumpert contributed 20 minute performances today and on Friday, but failed to stuff the stat sheet. He is an elite defender, but he still isn’t scoring the ball like you’d expect a starting SG too.

Thaddeus Young- Young put together a very impressive performance in the 76ers’ win against the Warriors on Saturday Night. He contributed 14 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in 40 minutes for Philly. This game was very important for him because he has been in a little bit of a slump. The 76ers play again tonight so we’ll see how he follows up this big performance.

NBA Nightly Update 2/27/13

Will Bynum- Bynum and the Pistons beat the Wizards by one on the road last night and this was Bynum’s first game back since his suspension. He played 14 minutes, but wasn’t productive, going 1-7 from the field and a 3/2 assist to turnover ratio. He should start to play better when he gets back to his regular minutes.

Derrick Favors- If you happened to watch the Hawks-Jazz game last night, you got a great look at Derrick Favors as a starter. Utah’s usual PF Paul Millsap was out for the game, so Favors took his place and had a stat line of 17 points, 15, rebounds,3 assists, and 3 blocks. He made the best of his opportunity and expect to see more performances like that next year when Millsap leaves in FA.

Jarrett Jack- Last night the Warriors played a great game against the Knicks but came up short on the road. Jack didn’t have a great shooting game, but he still scored 14 points off the bench. The real story though was Stephen Curry, who had the most points in an NBA game this season with 54.

Anthony Morrow- Dallas lost on the road last night against the Grizzlies, and Morrow did not see any game action.

Iman Shumpert- Shumpert was on the winning end of the Warriors-Knicks shootout. He started for the Knicks and got 22 minutes of playing time, but he was very inefficient on offense. Shumpert continued to prove why he is a valuable asset to the Knicks, however, by playing great defense and getting 6 steals.

Will Bynum Suspended Tonight Against Hawks

The NBA has suspended Will Bynum for one game after he punched Tyler Hansbrough in the stomach during Saturday night’s game against the Pacers. Although Tyler Hansbrough is quite annoying, this is still not something I want to see a former Yellow Jacket doing. Let’s hope Bynum learns his lesson from this punch and can move on. Below is a video of the punch that was thrown.

The other unfortunate consequence of the suspension is that we will not be able to see Bynum play against the Hawks tonight. The Hawks play the Pistons at 7:30 and that was the one interesting part of this otherwise boring matchup. This is also the last time the Hawks play the Pistons this year, so we will have to wait until next season to see him on television, since the Pistons won’t get a nationally televised game anytime soon.

Notable Friday Night NBA Performances

Last night saw two former Georgia Tech stars go off. Jarrett Jack, in a primetime game on ESPN, shot 11-22 from the field and posted 30 points, 10 assists, and 3 rebounds in 42 minutes of play. Jack provided a late game spark for the Warriors after hitting a couple clutch shots. Although he is coming off the bench, he is turning into one of the better pure PGs in the league. The other impressive performance of the night was from Will Bynum. Although his team was got blown out, he still shot 7-12 from the field and scored 17 points in 22 minutes. That is great news for Bynum since he will be looking for more playing time while Brandon Knight misses time with an injury.
